News About the Lakes We Love

With a monthly magazine-style television program and daily online reports, Great Lakes Now offers in-depth coverage of news, issues, events and developments affecting the lakes and the communities that depend on them, while capturing the character and culture of the region.

Have Students Create Their Own Segments About Ecosystems

Great Lakes Now covers a wide variety of topics that affect the Great Lakes region, its native plants and animals, and its residents. We encourage educators to watch this show with students and then empower students to do their own environmental reporting in communities around our state. Download our Educator Guide for detailed instructions and resources for student-led environmental journalism, and watch out YouTube playlist of our favorite segments to get a feel for the series.

More Environmental Journalism

For more tips and tricks, we recommend the NOVA Science Studio collection on PBS LearningMedia. The curriculum focuses on science journalism and video production, providing learning activities and editorial guidance for students as they develop their stories, conduct research, and create their videos.
